QTL Digital Media Training Set in NC
The Centers for Quality Teaching and Learning is expanding its Career and Technical Education offerings with a Digital Media training this summer. In partnership with Middle Creek High School, QTL will provide a four-day new teacher training session July 25-28 at MCHS in Cary/Apex. MCHS is a relatively new school, but has already built a reputation with its fantastic Digital Media program. What's more, they've designed their program in a way that other schools can adapt and implement it with greater impact and less expense than you might think possible. MCHS teachers Luis Maldonado, Wes Petty and Danny Hughes will lead this session, designed to help teachers and schools that are offering the expanded Digital Media curriculum. Details are on our web site. Join Us This Summer and Fall
With A+ changes impacting the course structure, significant curriculum updates taking effect this fall, and a major enhancement of resources from QTL, this is a great summer to connect with your peers. Join us for one (or more) of a series of events planned this summer - from Summer Conference sessions in Arkansas and North Carolina to a series of free workshops for teachers, Summer 2007 will offer something for everyone. A complete schedule is in the right-hand column. If you are attending Summer Conference in AR or NC you'll need to register with those conferences. For other events, simply email Robin Fred and ask him to reserve you a seat! Curriculum Change Will Benefit Students
Changes to QTL's Computer Engineering curriculum in 2007-08
will benefit students in more ways than one! A team of more
than a dozen leading teachers is working on new materials that will
cover the updated CompTIA A+ objectives. The 2007-08 edition will feature more handouts and worksheets for students than ever before, plus improved lesson plans for teachers. The new structure of the two-level program may be the greatest benefit of all. Instead of a Level 1 "hardware" course followed by a Level 2 "software" course, the new structure begins with an "Essentials" course that gives an overview of PC hardware, laptops, operating systems, printers, basic networking, security, safety and communications. The Level Two course covers those topics in greater depth, preparing students for full certification. This will be a major improvement for the many students who are only able to take the first course will emerge with a good, solid understanding of computer technology across the board. While they won't get the depth that taking both courses would provide, they'll still wind up with a strong foundation that will benefit them no matter what their career plans. Registration Underway for 2007-08 TPTTP
Registration is now available online for the 2007-08
session of the Arkansas Technical and Professional Teacher Training
Program, an intensive program designed for new Workforce Education
teachers of any subject. Offered through partnership between The
Centers for Quality Teaching & Learning and the Arkansas
Department of Workforce Education, TPTTP is a 90-hour program that
instructors attend in six sessions over 12-15 months. Paired with
the 45-hour SkillsUSA Chapter Management Institute (CMI), these 135
hours meet the Arkansas requirements for new teacher licensing. Depot Exam Test Prep
Russ Kicker, Computer Engineering teacher
at Hernando (MS) High School just south of Memphis, has taken the
CompTIA Depot Technician's exam and passed with flying colors. He
believes it's very appropriate for Computer Engineering students,
especially those who have only taken the CET I hardware
course. "Anyone who had a class that just did HW this year
probably needs to know that the DEPOT exam has very little software on
it," Russ writes, "so their students may be ready for the DEPOT."
He's generously created a test prep help tool with questions he
remembers from the exam. Participating teachers can find it
posted - with answers and without - on the QTL Professional Learning Community site.
